This is a long-term observational cohort study on patients with diabetes and their household members. Patients with diabetes will be followed up for risk factors related to poor glycaemic control and the development of diabetic complications. The household family members will be followed up for risk factors for the development of diabetes. In this study, patients with diabetes who registered with National Diabetes Registry (NDR) at Klinik Kesihatan Seremban will be recruited over a three-year period (2023 – 2025). Each participant will be followed up within the next 3-years period. The first follow-up will begin in 2026 and end in 2028 (3 years), the second follow-up from 2029 to 2031 (3 years), third follow-up from 2032 to 2035 (3 years) and fourth follow-up from 2036 to 2037 (3 years), with a total period of follow-up of at least 12 years.
It will be an open cohort study where all patients with diabetes registered under the National Diabetes Registry (NDR) who are being followed up at Klinik Kesihatan Seremban (KKS) will be invited to participate. Household family members of these index patients with diabetes will also be invited to participate in the cohort.
Klinik Kesihatan Seremban (KKS) - the main primary care health clinic in Negeri Sembilan.
Negeri Sembilan has the highest diabetes prevalence in the country at 33.2%, and the population demographic is closely resembling the Malaysian population (in term of racial distribution, socio-economic status, etc).
Each subject will be followed-up for at least 12 years after enrolment. Recruitment will be started in 2023 and continued throughout the study with every 3-years follow-up for at least 12 years.
