Dato’ Dr. Mafauzy Mohamed is currently a Professor of Medicine and Senior Consultant Endocrinologist in Universiti Sains Malaysia. He was formerly the Assistant Vice-Cancellor, Director of Campus, Director of Hospital and Dean of Medicine in the same university in Kelantan, Malaysia. He obtained his M.B.B.S. from the University of Adelaide, Australia in 1980. He was appointed as a Lecturer after he received his M.R.C.P (UK) in 1985.
He also obtained his Masters of Medical Sciences from University of Sheffield in 1987. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1992. In 1996, he was admitted as Fellow of Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) and in 2000 he was promoted as full Professor of Medicine. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Medicine degree from International Medical University in 2017. In 2022 he was bestowed the Legacy Award by the Malaysian Endocrine and Metabolic Society for his lifetime contribution in this field. He has also served as an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom and has been appointed by several universities as External Examiner for Professional Examinations at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and as Masters and PhD theses examiner.
He has to date obtained over 110 research grants mainly in the field of diabetes, dyslipidemia and thyroid disorders including many CV and renal outcome trials relating to diabetes and metabolism. He has supervised over 25 postgraduate students and has published over 120 papers, presented over 110 papers and has been invited to give over 530 lectures. He is also involved in formulation of Clinical Practice Guidelines such as Malaysian Type 2 DM, Thyroid Disorders and Obesity and the International Diabetes Federation and Diabetes & Ramadan International Alliance - Diabetes and Ramadan Practical Guidelines. He has been Chief Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, Journal of ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies and Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism.
SeDia Cohort is established, maintained and governed as a collaborative public-private partnership between the Ministry of Health (MOH), Malaysia and the International Medical University (IMU), Kuala Lumpur. The MOH will be represented by Negeri Sembilan Health Department and Seremban District Health Office.
